What is this documentary about?
This documentary film celebrates the life and legacy of rugby legend Jonah Lomu, highlighting his extraordinary career as an All Black and his impact both on and off the field.
Why are you looking for fan footage?
We want to complement footage supplied to the filmmakers by Jonah’s family and our professional archive materials and interviews with authentic moments captured by fans who witnessed Jonah's remarkable career firsthand. Fan perspectives add a unique and personal dimension to the documentary.
Who is making this documentary?
Vea Mafile'o and Gavin FitzGerald, a duo of experienced filmmakers passionate about honouring Jonah's legacy, are co-directing it. LOMU is being co-produced by New Zealand’s Tahi Productions and UK-based Sylver Entertainment. It received funding from the New Zealand Film Commission and the BFI’s UK Global Screen Fund Co-Production Strand.
SUBMISSION PROCESS
What type of content are you looking for?
We're seeking personal photos and videos of Jonah Lomu during his rugby career, particularly:
- Match footage
- Fan encounters
- Public appearances
- Behind-the-scenes moments
- Tournament coverage
What formats can I submit?
We accept most digital formats. If you have physical media (VHS tapes, film, old photographs), please mention this in your submission, and if your content is selected, we'll provide instructions for digitisation.
How do I submit my footage or photos?
Please complete the submission form HERE. At the end of the submission form, there is a link to the Lomu Dropbox for you to upload your content.
Is there a deadline for submissions?
Yes, all submissions must be received by Friday 9 May. This allows our team sufficient time to review and potentially incorporate selected materials.
USAGE AND RIGHTS
Will I be credited if my footage is used?
Yes, all contributors whose materials appear in the final documentary will receive appropriate credit as agreed upon in the release form.
Is there compensation if my footage is selected?
If your submission is selected for use in the final edit of the documentary film, compensation details will be outlined in the release form sent by our archive team.
What rights am I granting by submitting content?
By submitting, you're initially only granting us the right to review your material. If we're interested in using your content, you'll receive release forms that detail the specific rights being requested.
Can I submit footage if I'm not the original creator?
You must own the rights to any content you submit or have explicit permission from the rights holder. Please do not submit content you don't have rights to share.
SELECTION PROCESS
How will I know if my submission is selected?
Our archive team will contact you directly if your material is being considered for inclusion in the documentary film.
What factors determine if my submission will be used?
Selection criteria include uniqueness of the footage, technical quality, historical significance, and how well it complements other documentary elements.
If my content isn't used, will it be returned/deleted?
Yes, if your content isn't selected for the documentary, we will not retain copies in our archives unless you specifically grant permission.
TECHNICAL QUESTIONS
What resolution/quality should my digital files be?
Please submit the highest quality version available. For video, HD resolution or higher is preferred, but we understand that older footage may be of lower quality.
What if my content isn’t digital?
If you have media that is not digitised (i.e. printed photographs, DVDs or VHS) we’d love to hear from you anyway. Contact us to describe what it is, and if you can do a phone photo or recording to send us that’s even better. Check out the Submission page for more info.
Is there a file size limit for submissions?
The submission portal accepts files up to 2 GB. For larger files, please contact our archive team at lomudoc@gmail.com for alternative upload options.
What if I need help digitising old materials?
If your content is selected and requires digitisation, our team can provide guidance or assistance depending on the material.
